Server Room/Data Center Checklist

When relocating or planning a server room or data center there are a few things that are critical to your server room’s proper functioning.

Most important is the location. The location needs to be central as well as close to a wiring closet. The server room must also be scalable and allow for growth and new equipment. The best way of achieving this is to use a space saving vertical stacking system that can be expanded to your needs as your server room grows in size.

Hergo construct scalable open rack systems that provide a flexible, space management solution with maximum benefits allowing your server room to grow comfortably over time.

Server rooms also need to be located a safe distance from any source of moisture. Once you have all your equipment and computer furniture in place you should make sure you have done the following:

  1. Check for/have installed fire-rated door(s).
  2. Install fire, water, smoke, and power quality detectors.
  3. Determine and install optimal fire suppression system.
  4. Ensure server room air quality with filters, air conditioner or heater, and dumidifier/dehumidifier.
  5. Install anti-static flooring, raised flooring, and/or server pedestals.
  6. Mount patch panel(s) for voice and data.
  7. Install and test surge protectors and UPS.

Now that your equipment is in place and is adequately protected against both heat and moisture all that remains is for you to install servers, install all software and boot up.

Once that is done, test all connections and your server room is ready to go!
